Why Rocket League is One of the Best Indie Games Ever?

A game that sounds like the worst genre mash-up ever, caught the gaming industry by surprise, and we all can't get enough of it! Myself, like many others first played it on play-station when it was one of the freely available games in July 2015. Within moments of playing it, I was sitting in front of the PS4 with a huge grin, shouting at the TV with celebration and exasperation. Every time I met a friend both online and in real life, I'd ask them "Do you play Rocket League?", only to find out they're already hooked on it as much as I am. Here are the reasons why Rocket League is one of the best indie games.
  • It's Kinetic
At the soul of the game's success if the completely open kinesis to it, you're a simple car, a flat box booting around a large spheric ball. Within seconds of playing it, you'll feel how every single movement on your keyboard or controller counts, plus the physics behind it are perfect!
  • Imagine the Possibilities
There are literally a million possibilities every second, thanks to the wonderfully open physics. This makes every moment in the game unique, and no shot is similar to the one that preceded it. It makes games like PES or FIFA feel scripted and linear. Constant freak occurrences replace the off-the-shelf goals and motion captured animations.
  • It's Challenging
Even after a thousand games, it's still really hard. It's more likely that you'll completely mess up a shot rather than scoring a goal. You get to learn new tricks with every next game, as you encounter more skilled opponents. The aerial play is on a whole other level as well! There are absolutely zero things not to like about it, which cements my claim that it is indeed one of the best indie games in the past few years
  • Instant Matching
Now I've played a fair share of games and the matchmaking system most of them have is either completely broken by matching you with players on a completely different skill level than you, or forcing you to wait over 20 minutes in order to get a good match. However, this is not the case with Rocket League. As soon as you sit down and turn the game on, you're in an arena against other players. I've seen streamers that play Rocket League, while waiting to get matched in the game they're actually streaming. It's crazy if you ask me, and I'm unsure whether that's intended or not by the developer
